Apple TV+ content will be available via streaming direct to viewers over the internet.

Tim Cook announces Apple TV+ watch on YouTube

Apple® has announced that its new OTT service, Apple TV+, will launch on November 1 for $4.99 a month. Apple describes their service as “the first all-original video subscription service and home for today’s most imaginative storytellers.”

“We look forward to giving audiences everywhere the opportunity to enjoy these compelling stories within a rich, personalized experience on all the screens they love.”

“Each Apple TV+ original offers its own unique story, fresh perspective and powerful message — all meant to entertain, connect and inspire cultural conversations.”

Jamie Erlicht, Apple’s head of Worldwide Video.

Which is a pretty big call for what is, essentially, just another OTT video subscription service to add to the increasingly large list of online TV and movie content providers. On the plus-side, Apple’s original content certainly looks appealing!

Apple’s TV lineup of original shows, movies and documentaries will include “The Morning Show,” “Dickinson,” “See,” “For All Mankind” and “The Elephant Queen.”

Subscribers will be able to watch Apple TV+ originals both online and offline. Original TV programs and movies are available to buy or rent – including the latest blockbusters from iTunes. Top-rated prime-time TV shows, live sports, and news from leading cable providers will also be viewable on demand via the app.

Programs will be available ad-free and on demand on the Apple TV app, which comes pre-installed on the latest iPhone, iPad, plus on Apple TV and iPod touch and on select Samsung smart TVs. Subscribers will also be able to watch on the web. In the future, the Apple TV app will be available on Mac with macOS® Catalina and Amazon Fire TV, LG, Roku, Sony and VIZIO platforms.

To encourage sales of Apple devices, customers who purchase any new iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Mac or iPod touch starting from today can get one year of Apple TV+ for free.

Good news for families, the Apple TV+ app will support Family Sharing – so up to six family members can share one Apple TV+ subscription. Currently, family sharing only allows content streaming on three devices at the same time, and you’ll need an internet connection with enough bandwidth to support simultaneous streaming.

There isn’t a huge amount of content to start with. Apple TV+ will have only nine confirmed titles at launch. Another five will be added in the following months. Unlike Netflix, Apple’s TV shows won’t launch with complete seasons. Instead, only a few episodes will be available at premiere with one new episode planned for release each week.
